A leading media outlet reported that Akhtar Abdur Rehman Khan had helped the Mujahideen in Afghanistan receive billions of dollars in cash and other aid from the United States and other countries. Another media outlet quoted the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project as saying that money provided by Saudi Arabia and the United States to support the Mujahideen had been deposited in a Swiss bank account of the US Central Intelligence Agency.

The latest information on the Swiss bank account comes after the Panama Papers leak in 2016, the Paradise Papers leak in 2017 and the Pandora Papers leak last year. The maximum balance in the accounts of Pakistani nationals is 4.42 million Swiss francs.
