A total of 2,374 classes in high schools are planned for the 2024/2025 academic year. Of them, 945 (39.80%) were profiled, and 1429 were professional (60.19%). This became clear at today’s meeting of the Branch Council for Education, which confirmed the ratio proposed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The meeting was opened by the Minister of Education and Science Prof. Galin Tsokov. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Education.
130 professional classes in a dual education system are planned, which is 23 classes more than last year. There are also completely new specialties for the areas. For example, for the city of Sofia, these are “Helper – educator in raising and educating children”. In the Plovdiv region, they will study “Artificial intelligence programming”, “Theatrical make-up and wigs”, “Veterinary laboratory assistant”. “Salesman-consultant”, “Florism”, “Photography”, “Art fabric”.
New for Varna are the specialties “Stage Costume” and “Dental Physician Assistant”, and for Burgas “Ship Electrical Equipment” and “Providing Product Information”. “Social work with children and families at risk” is a new specialty in Vratsa region, “Supporting adults” in Blagoevgrad, “Social work with children and adults with disabilities and chronic diseases” in Vidin, etc.
The upcoming state matriculation exams and the national external assessment were also among the topics discussed by the social partners and the MES team. Over 51,000 applications were submitted for the first state matriculation exam in Bulgarian language and literature, which is on May 17. Traditionally, English remains the most preferred subject for the second compulsory matriculation examination in a profiling subject (nearly 13,000 applications).
It also became clear that in this May-June session, those who applied to take an exam to improve their matriculation grade will not pay a fee, because the change in the SC decree could not come into effect until they are held.
The members of the Branch Council also approved changes to the Inclusive Education Ordinance, through which technical means and software for complementary and alternative communication will be provided, enabling their use by children and students with motor problems. With these amendments, it will be possible to provide, if necessary, supporting technical means and software for the education of children and students with specific disorders of the ability to learn – with dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia.
Before the start, students from 192 “Hristo Botev” Secondary School in Bistrica performed songs and poems characteristic of Lazarov Day.
