“15 million for urban forestation”

The Ministry of Ecological Transition has selected and allocated 15 million euros to metropolitan cities to finance the best projects for urban reforestation. The metropolitan cities are: Venice, Bari, Genoa, Bologna, Palermo, Turin, Milan, Rome, Florence, Catania, Naples, Reggio Calabria, Messina and Cagliari.


“We wanted to give an important signal to the territories and citizens by assigning substantial economic resources to sustainable and green projects that will allow them to promote actions capable of contrasting changing climate change, and improving the quality of life of people”, explains the undersecretary of state al Mite with responsibility for forestation, Ilaria Fontana.

“In Italy, forests contain 2,239 million tons of CO2 and the amount of carbon they remove from the atmosphere every year varies between 19 and 33 million tons of CO2 (Ispra data referring to the year 2019) – he adds – To guarantee these results today our country can make use of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan where part of the funds will be spent on biodiversity and climate protection projects “.
