The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Solok Regency confirmed that 15 people died as a result of a landslide from a former gold mine in Nagari Sungai Abu, Hiliran Gumanti District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra (Sumbar).

“From the manual evacuation and rescue process until 13.40 WIB, 15 victims were found dead,” said Solok Regency BPBD Head Irwan Effendi when contacted in Padang, Friday (27/9).

He said that of the 15 victims who died, four victims were successfully evacuated to a temporary location, while the rest were still on the scene.

“Apart from the victims who died, the team has also evacuated three seriously injured victims,” ​​he said

Based on provisional data collected by BPBD Solok Regency, it is suspected that 25 people are still trapped around the gold mining site.

He explained that the unfortunate incident happened on Thursday evening (26/9). The landslide occurred in a former mining pit in Nagari Sungai Abu, Hiliran Gumanti District, Solok Regency.

He said the terrain was difficult and inaccessible for four-wheel or two-wheel vehicles, which made it a challenge for the BPBD team and volunteers to evacuate the victims. Even for the distance if you walk to the site
The landslide is estimated to take up to eight hours from the center of the village or motor vehicles.
