A 37-year-old school worker was killed and two other adults were wounded in a knife attack at a primary school in Poland on Thursday, marking the second violent school assault in the country in less than 24 hours.
The violence erupted around 09:00 local time at Pope John Paul II Primary School in Leszczydół-Nowiny, a village near Wyszków in the Mazovia region northeast of Warsaw. According to authorities, the suspect is a 15-year-old former pupil of the school who currently attends a vocational institution. Armed with three knives, the teenager entered the premises and directly targeted staff members according to the Ministry of Interior, whose spokesperson Karolina Galecka noted that officials did not know the motives for the assault.
Attack at the Wyszków Primary School and the Fatal Response
The initial assault struck the school’s caretaker, a 37-year-old woman, who sustained critical injuries. Despite emergency resuscitation efforts at the scene by medical teams—including an air ambulance dispatched to the location as noted by regional reports—she could not be saved and died from her wounds. Hearing the commotion, the school’s director and a teacher rushed to intervene and tried to disarm the attacker.
Katarzyna Kucharska told TVN24 that She was the first person attacked with a sharp object.
Both educators sustained injuries during the struggle while attempting to subdue the assailant. Ministry officials confirmed that the lives of the wounded director and teacher are not in danger. Police swiftly arrested the 15-year-old suspect at the school, and investigators have stated that his motive remains unknown.
Back-to-Back Incidents Across Polish Educational Facilities
Thursday’s tragedy in Leszczydół-Nowiny followed a separate violent incident at a vocational school in Ostrołęka, situated roughly 120 kilometers north of Warsaw. On Wednesday, a 19-year-old student attacked people inside and around Vocational School Complex No. 4 using a machete and a sharp weapon, injuring multiple students and staff members before attempting to flee toward a wooded area near the municipal beach, where police officers subsequently arrested him about 20 minutes later.

Police Intercept a Third Threat in Sierpc
As law enforcement scrambled to respond to the active scenes in Ostrołęka and Wyszków, authorities revealed they had intercepted a third potential school attack in the central town of Sierpc. A 17-year-old student told classmates that he intended to do “something bad” to his school.
Tusk Links School Violence to Internet and Games
In response to the sudden surge in school violence, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk convened an emergency cabinet meeting and denounced what he termed a prevalent cult of violence among young people, linking the behavioral crisis to unmonitored internet content, violent video games, and combat sports spectacles. Government officials announced plans to increase police presence around educational facilities nationwide as prosecutors investigate whether any organizational links connect the successive attacks.
