150 judges are under sanctions, 63% of judges are women

The majority of judges are women (715; 63%). There are 274 judges aged 30 to 40 (24%), 422 (38%) from 40 to 50, 308 (27%) from 50 to 60.

74 judges have reached the age of over 60 (6.6%), and 48 are not yet 30 (4.3%).

The Supreme Court has 60 judges, of whom 26 are women (43%).

In relation to more than 150 judges (about 13% of the total number), according to the information of the Supreme Court, various sanctions of foreign states have been imposed.

On August 3, the EC introduced new restrictive measures against 38 people, including 19 judges. Among them are the judges of the Minsk City Court Piotr Orlov, Valyantsina Zyankevich, the judges of the Moscow District Court of Minsk Sviatlana Bandarenko, Siarhei Khrypach, Tatsiana Pirozhnikova.

In the report of the Justice Hub Center for Law and Democracy “Responsibility for crimes against humanity in Belarus: factual data and legal analysis”, a special role in the prosecution of citizens for political reasons is given to prosecutors and judges.

It is noted that since August 2020, judges began to “simply implement the decisions of investigators and employees of state security agencies on the need to start an investigation, as well as on detention, indictment and sentencing to imprisonment.”
