A strike by French railway workers will affect 150,000 passengers over the coming weekend, unable to take scheduled train trips.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was stated by the head of the passenger transportation division of the National Company of French Railways (SNCF), Christophe Fanichet.

“150 thousand travelers will not be able to go on vacation, I’m very sorry,” he said on BFMTV.

Faniche noted that this strike is “incomprehensible” for the company’s management and noted with regret that the company will not be able to fully fulfill its obligations to passengers. At the same time, he said, 85% of passengers will be able to use their tickets, and traffic will be completely normal on Monday.

Railway employees have announced their intention to go on strike on February 17 and 18 across large parts of France during the school holiday weekend. The controllers are demanding higher wages and better conditions for those finishing their careers.

According to SNCF, the strike will mainly affect high-speed TGV trains: only half of the trains will operate in the country this weekend. At the same time, the company’s management ordered to ensure the functioning of routes in the direction of ski resorts first.

The previous large-scale strike by French railway workers took place at the end of 2022. It led to the cancellation of a large number of trains, which affected about 200 thousand passengers.
