1,500 ‘BDO’ homes near Redhill MRT

In the Alexandra area, 1,500 new homes will be built under the on-demand (PDO) housing project, which is less than ten minutes from the Redhill MRT station. The Housing Development Corporation said yesterday that it was drawing up plans and would be notified in due course.

New houses will be built on the land between Alexandra Road, Prince Charles Crescent, and the Alexandra Canal.

The location is about 400 meters from the Redhill MRT station.

Previously low-rise government rental houses, shops and markets were on the site. The buildings were demolished in the 1990s.

The site will be upgraded to meet the strong demand for public housing, Wivaka and the Singapore Land Authority said in a joint statement.

The site was earmarked for residential buildings in a 1998 master plan released by the Urban Reconstruction Authority.

Vivek was asked whether these houses would be covered under the recently announced Primary Regional Public Housing Scheme (PHL).

“New housing projects under the Primary Regional Public Housing Scheme are being confirmed. The houses to be declared under the Primary Regional Public Housing Scheme will be notified before the PDO announcement, ”said Viveka.

It was announced that the objective of the Primary Regional Public Housing Scheme was to make future housing available to all at affordable prices in the Central and Primary Areas.

Under the scheme, homeowners will be subject to strict purchase and sale conditions such as a minimum tenure of 10 years and recovery of government subsidy on resale of home.

In addition, it has been reported that 0.23 hectares of land where the Alexandra Post Office, Singfost is located, will be transferred to government control in a bid to develop the Alexandra region.
