Al-Marsad newspaper: A new report issued by the American Association for Cancer Research revealed that the number of people dying from this disease in the United States has decreased.

The report stated that the number of survivors has risen more than ever before, pointing to the types of cancer that have witnessed a greater decrease in the death rate, and the reasons that led to that.

The report indicated that the most common diseases are lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer, noting that between 1991 and 2019, there was a 32% decrease in the death rate of cancer in the United States, and this means that 3.5 million people were saved.

The report added: In the past three years, the number of people who survive a diagnosis of cancer has increased by more than one million, and that as of January in the United States there are 16 million survivors of the disease.

The report also states that there were only 3 million cancer survivors in the United States in 1971.

As for the reasons for the decline in cancer death, this is due to new treatments such as immunotherapy, as well as improvement in early treatment of cancer and a decline in smoking, and half of cancers can be prevented through lifestyle changes, such as smoking and obesity.
