Ukrainian forces shot down 17 Russian drones in southern Ukraine’s Odessa region and buildings were damaged in the port city district of Izmail, the local governor said on Monday. “Seventeen drones were shot down by our air defense forces […]. In several localities of the Izmail district, warehouses and production buildings, agricultural machinery and equipment of industrial enterprises were damaged,” Oleg Kiper explained on Telegram.
“Several fires broke out in the territory (of civil infrastructure) due to falling debris” after the drones were shot down, the governor added, adding that the fires were subsequently extinguished. According to the governor, the attack took place for three and a half hours and caused no casualties or injuries.
A “major night attack”
The operational command for the south of Ukraine described for its part a “major night attack” carried out by means of drones against “civilian infrastructures in the Danube area”. The river port of Izmail has become one of the main exit routes for Ukrainian agricultural products since Moscow ended the agreement on grain exports in July.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, Russian drones had hit industrial sites on the Danube, said the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. The Russian army had said for its part that it had carried out a raid using these devices against the port of Reni, also in the Odessa region.
