17 years ago, Inter fans woke up as FIFA world champions, beating none other than Barcelona. And it wasn’t a dream.
Perhaps it was the greatest achievement of a Brazilian team after the Pelé era. São Paulo was also champion, the previous year, and Corinthians afterwards. But Ronaldinho’s Barcelona was the best team in the world without any doubt, with the best player in the world and presented offensive and scoring football.
I don’t disparage Liverpool, it was a good team with Gerrard, Reina and Sissoko, but it wasn’t the machine of Ronaldinho’s Barcelona at its peak.
Corinthians faced Chelsea, who were not supposed to be there, they won the Champions League final in a brilliant strategy put together by their coach, counting on Drogba’s spectacular runs, but there was a consensus that Bayern were a better team.
So, 17 years ago, we accomplished a heroic feat that no one believed possible.
Congratulations to the Colorado fans who deserve this joy.
And our left back was Rubens Cardoso.
I say this to remember that it is possible for a team to play well (although it was a reserve in the Libertadores) without having 11 stars in the squad, or absolutely satisfactory players, even considering that it was just one game.
Ultimately, it is an achievement to be remembered, celebrated and taken as an example of what a team can do.
While we celebrate, we think about Inter in 2024, still without confirmation of the renewal (although I don’t think we will have any problems with that) of the coach and formation of the group, at a time when countless possible and impossible names are aired, with businessmen trying to inflate the market and offer your players.
Without any type of information, I hope that Inter is working quietly, without fanfare, with misdirections, mainly because it had a good success rate in recent signings, and any name that the club shows interest in will alert the competition with greater purchasing power.
January, in addition to assembling the team, is cup season, where we can see what the club’s bets could be on the kids who reached 20 and could move up, even though the strategy is, if I’m not mistaken, to send players under the age of of the other teams.
As I always say, the funnel for professionals is absurd, but the club needs to handle the transition better, because it hasn’t been good for several years and the feeling that remains is that some values were wasted with mistaken and poorly planned use.
