An 18-year-old young man has been missing since Saturday evening August 5, in Ille-et-Vilaine, said the maritime prefecture. With two other people, since taken care of by the firefighters, he went to swim in Cancale despite an orange wave-submersion vigilance.
« The Cross [Centre régional opérationnel de surveillance et de sauvetage] Corsen was alerted on Saturday at 8:36 p.m. and triggered his device because of three swimmers in difficulty on the beach of La Saussaye in Cancale, “said the maritime prefecture, confirming information from local media.
“Very unfavorable” conditions
Many means were engaged, including a helicopter and a speedboat, while the weather conditions were “very unfavorable”, complicating the establishment of the rescue system.
The search resumed Sunday morning to find the third person, but was suspended a little later “for lack of new elements”, according to the maritime prefecture.
The department of Ille-et-Vilaine had been placed on Saturday in a state of orange waves-submersion vigilance. “It is strongly advised to avoid dykes, rockfill and coastal paths where the public could position themselves to observe the waves, as well as any nautical activity and fishing on foot”, had indicated the prefecture of Ille-et- Vilaine, in a press release.
