The employability workshops promoted by SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA train 182 people
The Confederation presents the results of this initiative, aimed at people with mental health problems of the associative movement, within its Employability Strategy.
A total of 18 projects from 15 SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA entities were selected to participate in the “Call 2022-2023 to carry out workshops to improve the employability and social and labor improvement of people with mental health problems in the SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA Network”. 6 projects were executed in Castile and Leon4 in the Valencian Community3 in the region of Murcia1 in Canary Islands1 in Andalusia1 in Estremadura1 in Madrid and 1 in Galicia.
The goal of this initiative is improve employability of people with mental health problems belonging to the associative movement. The projects have been framed in two categories: ‘Improvement of job skills’ y ‘Digital skills for employment’.
Methodology and profile of the participants
A total of 182 people have participated in the training workshops, of which the 58% were men and 42% women. The average age of the participating people was 39 years, with the majority age range being between the 25 and 40 years (39%), followed by people between 40 and 50 years old (30%), and people between 50 and 60 years old (19%). To a lesser extent, the workshops were attended by people over 60 years of age (3%) and young people between 18 and 25 years of age (9%).
The students have been people with mental health problems who are mainly immersed in an active search for employment, which is why they belong to associations of the associative movement. In this sense, the training actions are of interest, impact and usefulness to improve their employability and strengthen the professional bond.
The workshops have been designed with a methodology that has guaranteed accessibility to resources and information, as well as inclusion and participation and active listening, overcoming the digital divide, providing electronic devices and internet access to students, as well as adapting to your particular needs and requirements. 97% of the hours of the executed projects have been face-to-face (1,479), compared to 3% of hours online (fifty). 44% of theory hours have been completed compared to a similar percentage, 42%, of practice hours.
Degree of satisfaction and results
The degree of student satisfaction has been high, since it has reached a score of 4.22 out of 5, with 5 being the highest score. So, the participants they are highly satisfied with the training received.
According to the data offered by the people responsible for the awarded projects, it is estimated that a 90.3% of the participating people in these training actions improve their employability and that a 36,7% of the participating people have obtained a job thanks to this socio-labour training.
Furthermore, in the vast majority of projects, the gender perspective has been worked on to encourage the participation of women in these training workshops, with inclusive language and iconography, attention to diversity, accessibility, etc. Emphasis should continue to be placed on promoting the gender perspective, increasing the participation of women and vulnerable groups (such as young people and those over 60, migrants, people of color and other minorities at risk of exclusion).
These types of initiatives are important since, according to data collected by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) through the report “Employment of people with disabilities” for the year 2021, people with psychosocial disabilities rank second regarding the higher rate of unemployment in disability. The employability rate for people with disabilities is higher for women than for men, with a difference of one percentage point (35.3% compared to 34.2% for men).
