1 thousand 891 candidates have submitted their nomination papers in the first phase of the upcoming Sixth Upazila Parishad elections.
Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said this information at the end of the filing of nomination papers on Monday (April 15).
He said, this time nomination papers have been submitted completely online. 696 candidates for the post of chairman, 724 for the post of vice chairman and 471 candidates for the post of female vice chairman have submitted their nomination papers.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the selection of nomination papers for the first phase is on April 17. Appeal against Returning Officer’s decision from 18 to 20 April. Appeal disposal 21 April, last date for withdrawal of candidature 22 April. Allotment of symbols is on 23rd April. Voting will be held in 150 upazilas on May 8.
District Election Officers and Upazila Election Officers have been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers in this round of elections. The appeal filed against the decision of the Returning Officer will be disposed of by the District Commissioner as the appellate authority.
As per the schedule for the second phase, the last date for submission of nomination papers is April 21. Selection of nomination papers on April 23. Acceptance of appeals from 24 to 26 April. Appeal disposal from 27 to 29 April. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 30th April. Symbol Allocation Symbol Allocation May 2. Voting in 161 upazilas will be held on May 21.
Additional District Commissioners have been appointed as Returning Officers and Upazila Nirbahi Officers as Assistant Returning Officers in this round of elections. Where the number of voters is more than 5 lakh, more Assistant Returning Officers will be deployed.
Voting in the next two phases of the four-phase upazila elections may be held on May 29 and June 5.
