In a tragic turn of events, a 19-year-old Palestinian, identified as Qusay Jamal Mi’tan, was fatally shot during clashes with Israeli settlers in the West Bank on Friday. Palestinian reports suggest that the Israeli settlers were responsible for his death.
According to the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry, the incident occurred in the Palestinian town of Burqa. An unnamed security source stated that Israeli soldiers were absent at the time of the confrontation and it appeared that the Palestinians were shot by settlers from the nearby illegal outpost of Oz Zion.
Responding to the incident, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged reports of clashes between Palestinians and Israelis, during which a Palestinian was killed by a gunshot fired by an Israeli. The military also reported that there were incidents of Israelis being injured by Palestinians throwing rocks.
“The IDF, Israel Police, and additional security forces arrived at the scene and are now investigating,” stated a spokesperson from the military.

The court determined that the relocation of the settlement from private Palestinian land met the demands of the Palestinian landowners to regain access to their territory.

In June, a Palestinian was shot dead during a settler rampage in Turmus Ayya, which followed a deadly attack. In February, a Palestinian was killed during settlers’ riots in Huwara after a terror shooting. The Israeli authorities, including the Shin Bet security agency, have investigated these cases.
Recent months have witnessed a surge in settler violence, with the UN reporting nearly 600 attacks on Palestinians and their property in the past six months. While some politicians, including those from the hardline right-wing coalition, have condemned the riots, settlement leaders have not been unequivocal in their condemnation.
The government has vowed to hold accountable those responsible for these settler rampages. Two suspects have been charged, and five Israelis have been held under administrative detention after being caught on film participating in the attacks.
The incident highlights the urgent need for de-escalation and the establishment of a peaceful coexistence between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank, as the cycle of violence continues to claim innocent lives and further inflame tensions in the region.
