New Delhi: Former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu has been sentenced to one year in jail for killing a man in a road accident. The incident related to the case took place on December 27, 1988. The apex court was hearing a petition filed by Gurnam Singh’s family. Sidhu has also been ordered to surrender before the court.

The case alleges that Sidhu hit Gurnam Singh on the head and this led to his death. At the same time, Sidhu argued that there was no evidence that death had occurred under his belt. Earlier, the apex court had imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Sidhu.
