Marco Odermatt dominates the World Cup giant slalom

Marco Odermatt, the Swiss ski star, is in the spotlight after racking up an impressive winning streak in the giant slalom. With eight consecutive victories in the discipline, including all five races this season, Odermatt has already etched his name in the history books of the Ski World Cup. Just the legend Ingemar Stenmark has demonstrated similar dominance in the past. Odermatt now has the chance to be the first athlete since Alberto Tomba winning nine consecutive World Cup races in one discipline, which would cement his position as one of the best giant slalom skiers of all time.

With 15 podium finishes in 17 World Cup starts this season, including nine wins, Odermatt has proven his versatility and consistency. Despite a seventh place in the downhill in Val Gardena and a fourth place in the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he remains the athlete to beat. He has the opportunity to achieve 10 World Cup victories in two consecutive seasons – a feat recently achieved by ski icons like Stone ground and Hermann Maier was accomplished.

Despite Odermatt’s previous successes, he has yet to achieve a victory in Bansko. In his last appearances on this track he achieved placings at the front of the field, but was unable to reach the top of the podium. This gives him additional motivation to improve his previous record and achieve his first win in Bansko.

Excitement in the giant slalom: Who will challenge Odermatt in Bansko?

The men’s giant slalom in Bansko this Saturday will feature some of the world’s best skiers fighting for victory. Marco Odermatt is considered the clear favorite for this race. His performance so far this season and his impressive winning streak in the World Cup make him the man to beat.

In addition to Odermatt there will also be Zan Kranjec considered one of the main competitors. Kranjec, known for his strong performances in the giant slalom, could well cause a surprise and challenge Odermatt. Filip Zubcicalso ranked with the same odds as Kranjec, has proven in the past that he can compete at the highest level, especially after his win in Bansko 2021.

Manuel Feller and Alexander Steen Olsen are also highly rated and could certainly cause surprises. Their odds reflect the potential for strong performances, even if they are not considered top favorites.

Henrik Kristoffersen, an experienced athlete with many successes in his career, will also be in the race, although with lower chances of victory according to the bookmakers. The same applies to Loic Meillard and Joan Greenboth of which have the potential to break into the top rankings.

Outsiders like Alexander Schmid, Gino Caviezel, Atle Lie McGrath, Filippo Della Vite, Stefan Brennsteiner and River Radamus complete the field. Although their chances are estimated to be lower, there is always room for surprises in skiing.
