Kolkata: Following the injury of captain Shreyas Iyer and the withdrawal of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Alhazal, Kolkata Knight Riders have included England opener Jason Roy in the team. Kolkata bought the 32-year-old star for Rs 2.8 crore. The Kolkata team officials have not given an explanation as to whether the player will play in tomorrow’s match against Royal Challengers.
Two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a major setback with captain Shreyas Iyer’s injury. In the absence of a permanent captain, Nitish Rana will lead the team. Shreyas Iyer will miss this IPL season due to injury. Shakib’s withdrawal was due to the busyness of international matches and personal reasons. Shakib is the player who acquired Kolkata for one and a half crore rupees in the star auction.
England opener Jason Roy, whose base price is Rs 1.5 crore, was acquired by Kolkata for Rs 2.8 crore. Joseon made his IPL debut with Gujarat Lions in 2017. He last played for Hyderabad in 2021.
He played five matches in 2021 and scored 150 runs including a half century. The 32-year-old Jones has played 64 Twenty20 matches for England. He scored 1,522 runs in T20Is including eight fifties.
