Flights were grounded and passengers were ordered to evacuate after police said an explosive device was found near the ferry terminal at Toronto Island Airport.

Police were alerted to a suspicious piece of luggage at the mainland ferry terminal at Billy Bishop Airport at 4pm yesterday. The police arrested two persons in this connection and said that both of them are cooperating with the investigation.

Toronto police said on Twitter they were still dealing with a potentially explosive device. Following this, the people in two residential buildings near the ferry terminal were evacuated. And in another residential building, only certain areas were evacuated.

Passengers at the airport panicked after police informed them of an explosive device. The airport said the airport’s runway was subsequently closed and two Air Canada flights were diverted to Ontario and Hamilton. It was also reported that passengers who were stuck inside the terminal for several hours were being evacuated by water taxis.
