Mining accidents continue to mourn families in the Guinean savannah. The sub-prefectures of Doko and Kintinia are the most affected areas. This Monday, February 19, 2024, two gold miners died after the collapse of part of the earth, in Bouré Fatoya, a district in the sub-prefecture of Kintinia, located 25 km from Siguiri. According to information, the place where the landslide occurred is an old, non-operational mine, but which is frequented daily by illegal artisanal gold miners.

“It was around 5 a.m. that the earth collapsed, two people were killed, all from Gbinkodokodo (norassoba sub-prefecture). We made the bodies available to their respective families for burial. May their souls rest in peace,” said Moussa Camara, member of the Bouré Red Cross.
Along the same lines, Laye Traoré, a gold prospector, explained the scene. “These two victims are my friends, we came to the mine together to search for gold. Here where the landslide happened, is a very dangerous and long abandoned place. The authorities must intervene to prohibit visitors, it is a real danger for gold miners,” he suggested.

The victims are Adama Magassouba, aged 25, married to a woman and father of two children, and Kabinet Magassouba, originally from Gbinkodokodo, married to a woman and father of two children.
It should be remembered that in the space of a month, 15 people were killed in the series of landslides that occurred in the Siguiri prefecture.
