Last Sunday (January 9) at Dubai Airport, two Emirates-owned Boeing 777s were scheduled to depart for India within 5 minutes. Runway 30R has been allotted for the two flights, which are scheduled to depart from Dubai to Hyderabad (EK-524) and Bangalore (EK-568).
The Dubai-Hyderabad flight went very fast after getting permission to take off. Airport officials were shocked to learn that another plane (EK-568) was speeding on the runway on the same runway and immediately ordered the Hyderabad flight not to take off. The pilot then slowed down the Hyderabad flight and drove the plane to the taxiway N4 parking lot adjacent to the runway.

The major plane crash was averted as authorities acted quickly and ordered the plane to stop. Hundreds of passengers on those planes also survived the crash.
Since both flights were registered in Dubai and the incident took place there, the Dubai Air Transport Authority has ordered an inquiry into the incident and a report. The Civil Aviation Authority of India has also asked for a copy of the inquiry report as flights to India were involved in the incident.

This is the second time in recent years that Emirates flights have been involved in such an incident.
On March 27, 1977, 583 passengers on both planes were killed when two similar planes collided on the same runway at Tenerife Los Rodeos Airport in Spain.
