Kabul: A news agency of the country has reported that more than 2 lakh cattle have died due to severe cold in Afghanistan for the past two weeks.

A spokesman for the Taliban-led Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said “2,60,000 cattle have been killed in 20 provinces of Afghanistan, including 1,29,000 goats and sheep,” adding that the victims were mostly from the northern provinces of Balkh, Jawzhan and Panchshir. .

Some farmers have asked the Taliban for help, saying the cold weather and lack of food have killed their livestock.

Regarding this, farmer Mohammad Naeem said that I had 60 goats and lost 30 goats due to lack of food and cold. “We are losing cattle because of the cold weather in winter,” he said.

Amidst the dire living conditions, locals in Kabul have also expressed their frustration as they have been subjected to various hardships due to frequent power outages amid the freezing weather.

The Taliban have banned humanitarian activities in the country. In protest against this, many charitable organizations that carry out relief work in times of disaster have suspended their activities, and many people have become victims of extreme cold in Afghanistan in the last one week.
