2-year-old child dies after being forgotten in school van

On the morning of this Tuesday, 14th, a two-year-old child died after being forgotten for six hours in a school van in Vila Maria, north of São Paulo. The van driver himself took the boy to the Vereador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital, in Parque Novo Mundo, but the child arrived there lifeless.

Today’s temperature reached an average of 37.3°C in the capital of São Paulo, according to the São Paulo Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE). The Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo stated that the driver called the Military Police at 4 pm this Tuesday, after a few hours since the boy was locked in the school transport.

The tragedy began when the driver stopped the vehicle in a parking lot in the morning, without realizing that the child was still inside. In the afternoon, when he returned to pick up the van, he found the baby passed out due to the intense heat and lack of air circulation.

The Civil Police took the driver of the van to record the incident. There was no identification of him or the child’s family. The investigation is ongoing.
