A hippo swallowed a two-year-old boy who was playing by the lake. Ugandans are relieved that the child who was later spat out miraculously survived. A 2-year-old boy, Paul Iga, was swallowed whole by a hippopotamus. A bystander started pelting stones at the animal and the boy was spit out alive. The incident took place on Sunday in Katwe Kabatoro, Uganda. The child was playing alone on the shore of Lake Edward near the house. Suddenly the hippo came ashore from the lake and used his jaws to put the child in his mouth.
But before the hippo swallowed the child, a bystander named Crispus Bagonza started throwing large stones at the animal. Foreign media reports that the child was spit back by the animal. The child was immediately taken to the hospital. The boy is being treated at a hospital in the nearby town of Bwera in Congo. According to the report, the hippo abandoned the child and returned to the lake. The Ugandan police stated that the hippo did not swallow the child only because Crispus Bagonza threw a stone at that time and this is the first such incident.
