The World Cup is already around the corner. In just over a week, the opening whistle will sound as hosts Qatar take on Ecuador in a match that will kick off the tournament, which naturally arouses a lot of interest. In the Spanish newspaper ‘El Pais’, for example, they focused on the influx of Israeli fans to Qatar for the World Cup.

“Football conquers fear: thousands of Israelis will come to the first World Cup in an Arab country,” reads the title of an article dealing with the issue. It also states: “Between 20,000 and 30,000 citizens from the Jewish state will arrive in Qatar despite the absence of the Israeli national team.”

There is also a reference to the approval of direct flights from Israel to Qatar: “In Doha, flights between the two countries are allowed”. As a reminder, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Sports reached an agreement with FIFA and the organizers of the World Cup on the direct flights, although Israeli companies will not be able to fly to Qatar.
