The pandemic has gripped the tour team. Therefore, the concert on Monday evening had to be cancelled. Just a day earlier, Sting made headlines with a commitment to opposing the war in Ukraine.

Leipzig. The concert with superstar Sting in Leipzig’s Quarterback Real Estate Arena was canceled on Monday evening twenty minutes after admission opened. The reason is said to be a positive corona test in the immediate vicinity of the crew. The concert should now be made up for in October or November.

Sting was the first superstar in almost two years to appear in central Germany after the corona rules were relaxed. The Brit wanted to present his current album here and present some of his biggest hits.

Sting made headlines in Lübeck on Sunday. A visit to the theater became a moving appeal against the war in Ukraine. After the show ended, Sting came on stage and sang a new version of his ballad “Russians”. In view of the war in Ukraine, he had recently re-released the piece in an unplugged version.

“I wrote it in 1984 during the Cold War and I never thought that it could become relevant again after the fall of the Berlin Wall,” said the 70-year-old.
Sting originally used the anti-war song to protest the arms race between the United States and the former Soviet Union.

“I hope the Russians also love their children,” the play says. Sting has announced that he will use the song at the beginning of all performances on his current tour. “I hired two cello players from Ukraine who will play the song as a gesture of solidarity with me,” he said. Sting attended a performance of the musical The Last Ship, for which he wrote the music. (mq/tim/dpa)
