Citroën celebrates the 20th anniversary of the C3 Pluriel, one of a kind. Introduced in May 2003, just one year after the introduction of the C3, 115,097 units of this compact three-door hatchback were built at the Villaverde plant between 2003 and 2010.
The C3 Pluriel was based on the Pluriel Concept, introduced at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show. With this new vehicle, Citroën wanted to make the transition from concept to production vehicle. All this without losing the original character of the concept and making the least possible concessions to adapt to the needs of mass production.
To make the transition from concept to product, approximately 150 people joined forces to develop technical solutions that combined the maximum number of possible options in a single vehicle.
The C3 Pluriel is a unique vehicle that was available in several versions and incorporated many mechanical elements from the C3, without reducing comfort or safety. The vehicle was reinforced with special components to guarantee that its occupants enjoyed the same security that closed vehicles offer. It also incorporated several driving assistance elements, such as ABS and emergency braking. Its interior offered all the comfort of a saloon, with four seats and advanced sound and thermal insulation, all in a vehicle that stood out for its originality. Thanks to its wide windshield and large windows, the C3 Pluriel offered a panoramic view in all its versions. In addition, the open headrests allowed for excellent visibility and reinforced the originality of the vehicle’s design.
The vehicle was offered in an unprecedented range of configurations, making a total of five versions. In its original configuration, it was a saloon with flowing lines and generous volumes. By opening the roof, it could be transformed into a panoramic saloon, offering an open-air experience.
A very modular FP car
Thanks to its hood, it could be quickly transformed into a convertible. This configuration highlighted the arches and showed the real personality of the C3 Pluriel, the feeling of freedom. By eliminating the arches, the C3 Pluriel could also adopt the design of a spider, an unexpected configuration that highlighted the clean lines of this model.
Lastly, by eliminating the bows and folding down the rear seats, el C3 plural it could be converted to a two-seat only spider pick-up with an open tailgate trunk. This wide variety of options gave the vehicle a unique personality that could be adapted to the needs of each moment. It was a vehicle designed for a day of adventure.
The C3 Pluriel was voted Convertible of the Year in 2003, the year of its introduction. This recognition not only made the C3 Pluriel stand out among its competition: the Convertible of the year was also a saloon.
