The finalists for the African Championship have been decided, after a series of exciting games in which Ivory Coast overcame Congo and Nigeria beat South Africa on penalties. Both teams will want to bring home the trophy – Nigeria for the first time since 2013 and Ivory Coast for the first time since 2015.
But it won’t be easy, on a battery of African stars who play in every team. On the financial side, the Ivory Coast beat the Super Eagles with a total value of €334.5 million, while the Nigerians have a squad worth an estimated €332 million – but the really crazy figure is that a third of that belongs to none other than Victor Osiman.

The Napoli striker who led them to win the Italian championship last year is considered the most expensive player in the entire tournament (and one of the most expensive in the world), with a value of 110 million euros. Osiman provided great displays in the tournament, with 1 goal and 3 assists (the most in the team), when in the Italian league the striker is in reasonable shape with 7 goals and 4 assists in 13 games this season.
After him is Ademola Luckman who plays in Atlanta, and serves as Osiman’s opponent in Serie A. In the league as well, the striker recorded impressive numbers, with 7 goals and 3 assists this season, with his value being a huge gap from Osiman’s – about 30 million euros “only”.
He is followed by Alex Iwobi, who plays for Fulham of the Premier League. The attacking midfielder who played in all the youth teams of England finally chose to represent Nigeria, and plays a significant role in the team. Iwobi’s value is currently estimated at 28 million euros.
In Ivory Coast the situation is different. Compared to Nigeria, where the most expensive stars are attacking players, the second league boasts an extremely expensive rear section. The most expensive player is Sporting Lisbon’s 20-year-old Ousmane Diomande, who is constantly on the rise. About a year ago his value was estimated at 4 million euros, when today he has doubled himself 10 times, while Diomande will be the car player in the Portuguese team.
After him comes another brakeman, also young and talented. Before he left for the African Championship, Odilon Kusuno was one of the reasons why Bayer Leverkusen had yet to lose a single game this season.
