2022 CAF Excellence Award to HM the King, a recognition of Morocco’s efforts to develop sports (sports researcher)
Casablanca – The Excellence Award of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the year 2022 (CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award-2022), awarded to HM King Mohammed VI, is intended as a recognition of the efforts made by Morocco for the development of sport, in general and football, in particular, assured sports policy researcher, Moncef El Yazghi.
This recognition was reflected in the thanks addressed to HM the King by the president of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, and the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, who congratulated the Sovereign for the efforts he continues to make in favor of football in Morocco and Africa, Mr. El Yazghi said in a statement to MAP.
The highlight of this ceremony was, without a doubt, the announcement, in the royal letter, which was read by the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, of the joint candidacy of Morocco with Spain and Portugal, to host the 2030 football World Cup, said Mr. El Yazghi.
With this initiative, he continued, Morocco has shown once again, if need be, that it has a clear vision and unwavering will, noting that the Kingdom is only honoring its commitment officially made in June 2018 after losing the organization of the 2026 World Cup to the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“Morocco is today a source of pride for Africa. The feat of the Atlas Lions at the last World Cup proves that the impossible is not African,” he concluded.
