The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 of the International Chess Federation is to be held in Chennai for the first time.

According to a press release issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu:

The Government of Tamil Nadu in association with the All India Chess Federation is pleased to announce that India has won the bid to host the 2022 International Chess Tournament in Chennai.

Following the announcement of the withdrawal of the Chess Olympiad 2022 from Russia due to the ongoing war situation, the event was made possible by the zealous efforts of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, in collaboration with all levels of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the All India Chess Federation Committee, as many countries sought to seize the opportunity.

Within exactly 10 days, the Government of Tamil Nadu immediately granted all approvals within hours of the All India Chess Federation approaching the Chief Minister’s Office with a request for an auction.

The Government of Tamil Nadu is very happy to win the auction for the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022. About 2000 competitors from 200 countries will take part in the competition.

As the tournament will be held in India, there will be an opportunity for many teams to represent India.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has always been a great supporter of the game of chess. In various ways, such as promoting chess in schools, providing infrastructure for chess tournaments, and providing incentives for chess players.

The Government of Tamil Nadu is promoting chess tournaments.

Due to such incentives, out of 73 Grand Masters of India, Pragyananda, Kukesh, Adiban, Srinath and world famous Viswanathan Anand have been awarded to Grandmasters in Tamil Nadu.

Yet more grand masters are expected to come in the future.

The Chess Olympiad 2022 will be held in Chennai from July 26, 2022 to August 8, 2022. Thus it is reported

In this context, Chief Minister MK Stalin said in a Twitter post that he was happy that the Chess Olympiad would be held in Chennai and that Tamil Nadu was proud to host the Chess Olympiad. He also said that Tamil Nadu welcomes the players who will be participating in this tournament.
