KINSHASA – The Congolese Nobel Peace Prize winner, Doctor Denis Mukwege, will submit his candidacy for the presidential elections this Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in Kinshasa. The renowned gynecologist made this known this Monday, October 2 in his address to the Congolese people in Kinshasa in front of his supporters.
The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner says he accepts the appeal of the Congolese people. ” I’m ready. I agree to be your candidate in the next presidential election.”
The doctor. Mukwege calls for collective commitment to achieve rupture. “The time is no longer for compromise with the anti-values who are ruining our country. Our nation is in peril. The Constitution is trampled under foot by the one who is supposed to be the guarantor of the nation. I came to tell you that I heard your call. I’m ready but with you. I am not for continuity, I suggest a break. My social project is based on work and discipline,” he declared.
On Saturday September 16, 2023, Denis Mukwege received a guarantee from members of some civil society organizations for him to submit his candidacy for the presidential election on December 20, 2023. At the same time some Congolese analysts think that this is not the opportune time. They believe that he should submit his candidacy for the presidential elections of 2028 and not this year given that the candidates are numerous and that he should instead form a coalition with the other opposition candidates to try to stifle Félix Tshisekedi from the Sacred union.
