Millions of people are set to hit the road, take to the skies, and ride the rails as the annual Thanksgiving travel rush approaches. According to the 2023 Deloitte holiday survey, 48% of Americans are planning to travel over the holidays, a noticeable increase from the previous year.

However, travelers may face some challenges as heavy snow and storms are predicted to disrupt travel plans just before Thanksgiving. FOX Weather Meteorologist Jane Minar warned that a change in the weather pattern could lead to potential travel disruptions. The forecast for the Thanksgiving week also shows potential for a stronger storm system in the western U.S., bringing heavy snow, gusty winds, and rainy weather across the region.

The shift in weather pattern is expected to start toward the end of the week, with the possibility of storms on both coasts between Nov. 16th and 19th. This could mean snow for the northern states and heavy rain for the southern states, creating more chances for travel troubles ahead of Thanksgiving week.

As the travel period approaches, the details of the forecast will become clearer. The Climate Prediction Center is calling for above-average temperatures and precipitation across the eastern two-thirds of the country during Thanksgiving week, while the western states should expect below-average temperatures and average precipitation chances.

With the potential for travel disruptions on the horizon, travelers are advised to stay informed and be prepared for possible changes to their Thanksgiving travel plans.
