Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that on the night of August 10, the country’s airspace was violated – probably drones flew into Belarus, which attacked the Kursk region of Russia at night. In connection with this, “appropriate measures” were taken.

BELTA reports this.

According to the head of Belarus, at 19:04 on August 9, at an altitude of 1.5 km and a range of 6.5 km, several targets were destroyed by air defense forces over the territory of Belarus. At the moment, they are looking for the remains of what was destroyed – most likely, we are talking about attack drones. At the same time, Lukashenko launched a tirade towards Ukraine, stating that in this way “the Ukrainians are showing that they do not want peace.”

Interestingly, during his speech, Lukashenko revealed how many kilometers deep into the Kursk region the Ukrainian Armed Forces had advanced — according to the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus, Ukrainian forces had taken control of 30-35 km of Russian territory. He considers the strikes on Russia a “provocation.”

It is worth noting that, unlike Lukashenko, the rhetoric towards Belarus in the Russian media is not so friendly. Many war correspondents openly accuse the leader of the Republic of Belarus of the fact that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive occurred because Lukashenko “withdrew troops from the border.”

As for drones, it should be noted that during numerous attacks on Ukraine from Russia, Iranian-made Shahed drones repeatedly violated Belarusian airspace. Such incidents also occurred during July 2024.

For example, on July 31, Belarus raised its air force to intercept Iranian drones that flew in from the Russian side. This information was provided by the opposition group “Belarusian Gayun”. The monitoring group also noted that the Belarusian air force had been on duty at the airfield in Baranovichi (near the border with Russia) since July 15 without a break.

However, Belarusian officials did not comment on this information in any way and did not accuse Russia of violating airspace.

Earlier, “Kursor” reported that Ukrainian drones can already hit helicopters – the first such case in history occurred in the Sumy region of Ukraine, where an FPV drone shot down an MI-28 helicopter.
