Russia may launch a massive missile and drone strike on Kyiv in response to Ukraine’s offensive in the Kursk region, The Times reported on August 11.
After several days of silence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hinted at the advancement of the Armed Forces in Kursk, saying that Kyiv was “transferring the war to the territory of the aggressor.”
At the same time, however, a senior Ukrainian Defense Ministry source said Ukraine was preparing for a potential aggressive response from Russia, including attempts to strike high-value targets in Kyiv. The source suggested that Russia could try to attack the parliament and other government buildings.
“Russia will most likely be forced to give a decisive response, something substantial, to show the world that it is strong and that actions like those in Kursk will not go unpunished,” the unnamed source said.
The source also noted that the new Russian attack would likely involve much more than just four missiles. It could be a massive drone attack, as well as several missiles. The attack could also be a combination of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and attack UAVs.
“This could be a serious problem for our air defenses, but I believe we can stop them,” the source added.
Earlier, “Kursor” reported that the Russian leader is trying to pretend that the situation in the Kursk region is “under control” and is looking for “those responsible” for the invasion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
