Former National Security Adviser John Bolton expressed doubt that ceasefire talks will be successful, despite the White House’s announcement that the talks would continue until next week.
This was reported by the news portal The Hill.
The key question, he said, is what exactly will be discussed beyond the hostage exchange, and this is where Bolton believes Hamas terrorists and Israel have significant disagreements.
“The real question is what exactly will happen beyond the hostage exchange, and that’s where I think Hamas and Israel are really far apart. Hamas’ idea of a ceasefire is a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip — synonymous with ‘end of war.’ For Israel, a ceasefire means a time-limited period of four, six, eight weeks, after which fighting can resume,” Bolton said.
The United States is actively trying to broker a ceasefire as Iran prepares to retaliate against Israel following the alleged assassination in Tehran in late July of senior Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh.
He concluded that Iran is gravely concerned that this time Netanyahu and Israel will not allow the US to restrain them and could launch a powerful strike on key targets in Iran, including the nuclear programme.
Earlier, “Cursor” wrote that Channel 12 journalist Amnon Abramovich reported new details about the negotiations taking place in Doha and concerning the issue of releasing the hostages.
