The Russian Navy plans to conduct large-scale exercises in the Eastern Mediterranean from September 2 to 30. The US Federal Aviation Administration reported this.pointing out that Russian maneuvers could have an indirect impact on the escalating Middle East conflict. Military activity in the region, in their opinion, could change the dynamics of the situation in the Middle East.
The exercises will take place in the waters adjacent to the coasts of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Cyprus. It is important to note that this is not the first time that Russia has been active in the Mediterranean. In June of this year, Russian Pacific Fleet warships already took part in joint maneuvers with Egypt. The missile cruiser Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov from the Russian side, as well as the Egyptian frigate Al-Qadir, took part in these exercises.
During previous maneuvers, as the Russian Defense Ministry noted, the participants successfully worked out various tasks, including the formation of a detachment of warships, tactical maneuvering, and the organization of deck helicopter flights. These exercises, as the Ministry believes, contribute to strengthening the combat readiness and interaction of the Russian Navy and its partners.
