Iran has made new statements regarding a possible response to Israel’s actions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, said that the country’s leadership intends to take revenge on Israel for the murder of Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh, which took place in Tehran.
Araghchi also stressed that Iran’s response to the attack will be carefully thought out and calculated, and that Iran does not seek escalation, although it is not afraid of it.
In response, Tajani called on the parties to show restraint and take a constructive approach to prevent further escalation of the conflict, which could only exacerbate the suffering in the region.
Earlier, Cursor reported that the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry spoke about the “punishment” for Israel in a conversation with colleagues from France and Britain.
Iran’s new foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, told his French and British counterparts that Iran has the right to retaliate against Israel over the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Araghchi claims Israel is responsible for the July 31 assassination of Haniyeh, which he called “an unforgivable violation of Iran’s security and sovereignty.” Iran considers itself entitled to punish the aggressor, the minister said.
Although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the assassination, France’s Stephane Sejourne and Britain’s David Lammy have congratulated Araghchi on his appointment as foreign minister.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran and Hezbollah at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, saying Israel was ready to defend itself against any threats from those adversaries.
He stressed Israel’s determination not only to defend itself, but also to make its enemies pay a high price for any attacks.
