During the massive and combined attack on August 26, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used not only modern types of air defense to repel the attacks, but also ingenuity. In particular, the fighters of Zakarpattia shot down a missile with a machine gun.
The video of the destruction of the occupiers’ cruise missile was published by the head of the Zakarpattia OVA Viktor Mykyta. The video then went viral on social networks.
“The Transcarpathian 650th separate anti-aircraft machine gun battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a cruise missile on the border of our and Lviv regions. It was heading for our region,” commented Mykyta, thanking the defenders for their professionalism and saving lives.
The video shows that the fighters took up a mobile position in a field in a mountainous area. Then, after aiming, a shot was fired in the direction of the missile’s flight – the fighter hit the target on the first try. It is worth noting that missiles reach Zakarpattia, which is covered by the Carpathian mountain range, less often than other regions of Ukraine.
It is worth noting that this is already the second such case – in June, the soldier “Doctor Mom” shot down a cruise missile with a machine gun in the Kyiv region. It is very difficult to implement something like this.
Later, the former spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ignat, reported that the missile was shot down not by a machine gunner, but by another Pvoshka missile that caught up with the Russian Kh-101 missile.
Let us recall that since 6 a.m. on August 26, Ukraine has been subjected to combined massive strikes by Russians on energy and civilian infrastructure. Emergency power outages have now been introduced in Ukraine due to the situation that occurred in the country’s energy sector during the ongoing Russian attack.
Earlier, “Kursor” reported that as a result of a massive attack by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, residential buildings were damaged. In addition, there are 5 dead and injured (the exact number is being clarified), including children. According to monitoring data, 40 missiles and 100 drones were shot down, but the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not yet commented on these figures.
