In Russia, the chief designer of the Iskander-M missile system, Oleg Mamalyga, has died. The developer of the deadly system also participated in the creation of the Tochka tactical systems (which is the prototype of the modern Tochka-U) and the Oka and Oka-U operational-tactical missile systems.

He was a “laureate of the state prize”, the RF government prize, a holder of the orders of the October Revolution, the Red Banner of Labor, the “badge of honor”, and was also a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences.
“He devoted his entire working life to work at the Kolomna Machine-Building Design Bureau. Mamalyga participated in the development of weapons and military equipment, including the first Soviet anti-tank guided missile systems,” the obituary of the High-Precision Systems holding company says.
The Iskander-M missile system is the brainchild of Oleg Mamalyga, which Russian propaganda has dubbed “unrivaled”. It is capable of hitting targets from a distance of up to 500 km in less than 4 minutes. The first launch took place after the collapse of the USSR, in early 1993, and it was adopted by the Russian army in 2006. Russia regularly attacks Ukraine with Iskanders. The strikes of this ballistic missile cause enormous destruction on the territory of the country – including the Russians shelling civilian infrastructure (residential buildings), as well as energy, leaving people without electricity.
