The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a possible humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that could allow for essential medical operations.

Channel 12 reports this.

A senior WHO official said the organization had received advance approval to impose specific humanitarian pauses in certain areas of Gaza to allow the polio vaccination campaign to take place.

The official also said that the WHO estimates that about 10,000 patients are in critical condition and require urgent evacuation and medical care outside the Gaza Strip. Half of these people were sickened by the fighting, underscoring the severity of the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Earlier, Cursor reported that Hamas terrorists made a statement about the possibility of a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha told the Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed on Thursday that the terrorist organization had agreed to a temporary “humanitarian pause” in the fighting. The ceasefire is expected to last seven days.

Egyptian sources told the publication that they believe the truce will begin in the coming days. The humanitarian pause is intended to facilitate the polio vaccination campaign. The sources also indicated that the truce will be in effect for three to five days during daylight hours and will not affect areas where IDF forces are located.

The proposed truce was also reportedly discussed in Cairo during a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier this month. Arab reports say that with negotiations on a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza stalled, mediators have shifted their focus to securing a short-term humanitarian pause. The move is aimed at addressing urgent needs, including polio vaccines and hygiene supplies, especially amid outbreaks of various diseases among displaced populations and concerns about a possible epidemic in Gaza.
