Lavrov made a similar statement in an interview with “Bridges to the East”, which is being filmed by the Russian channel RT. In his speech, he drew a parallel between the actions of Israel and Ukraine, accusing Israel of trying to provoke a regional conflict.
Lavrov noted that it seems as if Israel is the only party interested in the war. In his opinion, the current Israeli government, which is distinguished by its tough political position, does not hide its intentions to use the situation to once and for all try to resolve issues with Hamas, Hezbollah, pro-Iranian groups in Syria and Iraq, as well as Iran.
Lavrov also drew an analogy with the situation around Ukraine, claiming that President Volodymyr Zelensky is striving for a similar goal – to unleash a large-scale war in the region, in order to then involve American and NATO forces in it. In addition, Lavrov emphasized that the Ukrainian president is acting at the instigation of the United States and is completely incapable of acting independently.
The minister also called the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran a provocation, stressing that despite Iran’s reluctance to enter into a major conflict, Israel continues to commit political assassinations in the country’s capital.
Earlier, Cursor reported that Lavrov also criticized Israel’s actions in Lebanon, saying that the Jewish state was creating new challenges for the country. According to him, Hezbollah, which is showing “solidarity with the Palestinian people,” is acting with restraint, but Israel demands that the group cease its activities completely.
