Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made a statement accusing Israel of seeking to unleash a large-scale conflict in the Middle East.
The Telegram channel “Alexey Zheleznov” writes about this.
In an interview with the Russian TV channel RT, he expressed the opinion that it is Israel that is most interested in escalating the situation in the region. According to Lavrov, the Israeli government may try to use the current tensions in order to once and for all resolve its long-standing conflicts – both with Hamas, Hezbollah, and with various pro-Iranian groups in Syria, Iraq and, ultimately, with Iran itself.
The Russian Foreign Minister noted that Israel has long been taking steps to provoke Iran into military action. However, in his opinion, despite these efforts, Tehran has so far refrained from openly responding, although it reserves the right to protect its interests. Lavrov also added that the United States and other Western countries, including France, have intervened in the situation. According to Lavrov, they are now trying to persuade Iran not to respond to provocations, which, in his opinion, turns the situation on its head: now the West is more concerned about Iran’s restraint than about Israel’s actions.
Earlier, Cursor reported that Lavrov said that Israel is waiting for the presidential elections in the United States, hoping for a reduction in international pressure regarding negotiations with Hamas.
