Israeli President Isaac Herzog discussed the shooting incident outside the Israeli consulate in Munich with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier and expressed gratitude to the security forces for the prompt action that led to the rapid neutralization of the shooter.

The Duke noted the symbolic tragedy of the fact that on the day when a memorial ceremony was held in Munich for the Israeli athletes killed 52 years ago by terrorists, a new terrorist attack again attempted to take innocent lives.

The president thanked the German security services for their “quick action” and added: “Together we will stand firm in the face of terror. Together we will win.”

Earlier, the Bavarian Interior Ministry reported that the suspect who opened fire near the Israeli consulate and the Nazi history museum was shot dead during a shootout with police. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that no employees of the consulate were injured, as it was closed at the time of the incident. The museum also reported that its employees were safe.

Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, German Interior Minister Nancy Feser called the incident a “serious incident” and stressed that protecting Jewish and Israeli sites was a priority for German authorities. She said she was in contact with emergency services but declined to discuss further details.

The Cursor also reminds us that today marks 52 years since the attack by Palestinian terrorists on the Israeli delegation at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, during which 11 members of the Israeli team, a West German police officer and five attackers were killed.
