Luckily, Michael and Eti Lahav, a couple who have been volunteering for the Israeli Ambulance Service (MADA) for many years, were there. They were on the trip to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and reportedly did not expect that the trip would end up saving a life.

Details of the incident were reported on mynet.

Michael, 73, and Eti Lahav, 71, from the village of Nirit, have been volunteers at MDA for 13 years, where they work as senior paramedics. This year, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary, they purchased a package tour, which Yakov and his wife also took part in. On the last day of the trip, a few hours before the flight from Munich to Israel, Yakov suddenly suffered cardiac arrest and lost consciousness.

Eti, who was nearby, quickly assessed the situation and noticed that Yakov was not breathing or pulsed. She called her husband for help, and together they began resuscitation. Michael asked the tour guide to call an ambulance, and Eti used the defibrillator that was at the airport. After two shocks, the heart function was restored, and the ambulance arrived and took Yakov to the hospital.

After nine days in a Munich hospital, Yaakov returned to Israel for rehabilitation. This week, he met with Michael and Eti to thank them for saving him and to discuss his experiences.

Michael and Eti said that sometimes they have to save lives in the most unexpected places. They noted that in this situation they relied on all the experience they had gained at MADA and expressed joy at being able to help Yakov. Despite the pleasure of the trip, they said that nothing can compare to the satisfaction of saving a human life. The couple emphasized the importance of resuscitation skills, noting that Yakov’s case showed how useful these skills can be in the most unexpected circumstances.

Yakov, in turn, admitted that he felt good during the journey and could not foresee how it would end. He expressed deep gratitude to Michael and Eti, calling them “savior angels,” and noted that their quick reaction and decisive actions helped him survive.
