New York Post political columnist Michael Goodwin noted the symbolic coincidence of the 79th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II and President Joe Biden’s statement, in which he effectively gave the Hamas terrorist group a signal to continue fighting and holding hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Japan surrendered on September 2, 1945, officially ending World War II. On that same day, in 2024, Biden, responding to a question from a CNN correspondent, criticized the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Goodwin wrote in his column that if Biden had been president in 1945 instead of Harry Truman, “America would have lost World War II” because Biden would have shown weakness in the face of tyrants and terrorism.

Goodwin noted that Biden, in his comments on the hostage situation, failed to condemn Hamas for executing six Israelis, including U.S. citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin. Instead, the U.S. president made statements that undermined the credibility of Israel’s leadership. Biden also failed to mention that Israel had agreed to a ceasefire that Hamas rejected.

The author reproaches Biden for being soft on Iran, which continues to finance Hamas, and for being ineffective in the fight against terrorists. According to Goodwin, Biden’s actions are aimed at satisfying the interests of the anti-Semitic wing of the Democratic Party, which is especially noticeable in an election year.

The columnist emphasizes that the only sensible US policy is to support Israel in its quest to defeat Hamas, otherwise the war will continue indefinitely.

Earlier, Cursor reported that the WSJ criticized the Biden administration for its response to the killing of six hostages by Hamas.
