The Israeli Air Force carried out a series of massive strikes on targets in Syria, beginning late on September 8, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The Telegram channel “Alexey Zheleznov” writes about this.
The strikes lasted for about three hours and consisted of four waves. Arab media called the attacks some of the most powerful in recent years. Partial confirmation of the attacks was received from the Syrian state news agency SANA.
The first two waves of strikes targeted a number of targets in Damascus, Masyaf, Tartus and Homs. Among the targets hit were military industrial plants, weapons depots in Wadi al-Uyoun, Masyaf and Salamiyeh, as well as a convoy of military equipment and drones in the Tartus area.
The shelling of the research center in Masyaf resulted in at least six explosions, the destruction of buildings and military facilities, and fires in the surrounding area.
Bases housing Iranian militias and weapons scientists were attacked in the southwest Hama province. The fourth wave of airstrikes hit a facility in the Khair al-Abbas area and a target in the Mediterranean near Baniyas.
At least seven people have been confirmed dead so far. There is information about the liquidation of military personnel.
It is believed that some civilians may have been killed or injured as a result of the Syrian air defenses’ attempts to repel the attack, as several Syrian missiles fell in residential areas. According to SOHR, one of the missiles landed in the village of Samaka in the Khirbet al-Muazzah area, and another in the Tartus suburb of Al-Majdeh.
Video footage posted online reportedly showed secondary explosions and missiles being launched after the initial blasts, indicating that military depots had been hit. Syrian sources claim that in addition to fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were also involved in the attack.
They also report that Syrian air defense systems were able to shoot down some of the Israeli UAVs and missiles, but this is only partially confirmed, as only two videos from the Tartus area are presented, which show the interception, but the details remain unclear.
Unofficial sources linked to the Syrian regime described the Israeli attack as a “belt of fire” that aimed to exhaust Syrian air defense systems and admitted that the attack’s power exceeded the capabilities of their defensive systems.
Earlier, Cursor reported on powerful strikes on targets in Syria.
According to media reports, the strikes targeted a research center that has ties to the IRGC.
