President Joe Biden’s administration has prioritized containing the war in Ukraine, seeking to prevent it from spreading beyond the country’s borders.

However, this strategy, as Foreign Policy writes, has serious consequences for Ukraine itself, Europe and the world as a whole.

The desire to avoid direct conflict between Russia and NATO has led the United States to be cautious about providing Ukraine with advanced weaponry. Since the start of the war, Washington has focused on avoiding nuclear escalation, which, according to the author, is reflected in the slow delivery of critical weapons needed to defend Ukraine. These delays are due not only to logistical, training, and manufacturing difficulties, but also to political constraints.

The United States, seeking to control the scale of the war, limits Ukraine’s ability to conduct military operations. This manifests itself in selective arms deliveries, restrictions on the number of trained Ukrainian soldiers, and bans on the use of certain types of weapons. Moreover, Washington blocks strikes on Russian territory, in particular using Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles, permission for which has been blocked for Britain and France.

This approach has drawn criticism from Eastern European countries that have experience fighting Russian imperialism and do not want history to repeat itself. Moreover, the author notes that such a strategy risks creating an even more powerful Russian military machine, allowing it to accumulate strength rather than ensure its defeat.

The author emphasizes that the complete defeat of Russia is possible only with a change in strategy, including the use of the air component of the war and long-range weapons.

Also, “Cursor” reported that NATO could fail Ukraine in the winter.
