The US Army is actively using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to develop new alloys and improve batteries, significantly accelerating traditional research methods.

National Defense writes about this.

In partnership with SandboxAQ, the Army’s Ground Vehicle Systems and C5ISR centers have been awarded contracts to use AI to solve various problems. Ground Vehicle Systems aims to develop new alloys for armored vehicles that will help improve safety, performance, and reduce manufacturing costs. These developments also aim to minimize environmental impact, reduce reliance on rare earth metals, and improve material performance.

C5ISR, in turn, is working on creating new batteries for unmanned vehicles and electric vehicles. AI helps speed up the development and testing process, which makes it possible to implement new technologies faster. This will improve battery parameters such as capacity, safety, and charging speed, which is important for unmanned systems and the electrification of military equipment.

AI replaces traditional, time-consuming laboratory research processes by performing complex calculations that previously took months or years. This enables the Army to create new materials and solutions that will help improve the efficiency of military operations, reduce development costs, and reduce dependence on external suppliers of rare earth elements. This approach makes military equipment more independent and resilient, which is key to advancing U.S. defense capabilities.

Earlier, Cursor reported that Israel signed the first international convention on AI.
