A concert by American rock band Jane’s Addiction in Boston ended abruptly last Friday when frontman Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro on stage.

According to video footage taken by onlookers and posted online, Pharrell started the fight by deliberately bumping into Navarro, who was playing during the song “Ocean Size.”

The confrontation quickly escalated. After a brief exchange of words, a shocked Navarro attempted to de-escalate the situation and distance himself from Farrell. However, Farrell, visibly enraged, began throwing punches and thrashing around the stage. The crew, along with bassist Eric Avery, intervened and forcibly removed the unruly Farrell from the stage.

Initially, the cause of the altercation was unclear. However, Farrell’s wife, Ettie Lau-Farrell, later explained the situation in an Instagram post. Lau-Farrell acknowledged the tension and animosity between the band members. She stated that Farrell had been upset for some time because he felt his voice was being overshadowed by the louder instruments. According to Lau-Farrell, his frustration was exacerbated by audience complaints about the band’s poor sound mix during a concert in Boston. Farrell, stunned by the situation, reportedly “lost it” and broke down in tears backstage.

In response, the band issued a brief apology via Instagram Stories, acknowledging “the events of the previous night.” They also announced that they had canceled their scheduled show in Bridgeport that evening and offered refunds to ticket holders.

Formed in the mid-1980s, Jane’s Addiction is a prominent and influential rock band known for its blend of alternative rock, punk, metal, and psychedelic rock. The band recently returned with its classic lineup of Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins. Last July, the band released the single “Imminent Redemption,” which heralded “the next chapter of Jane’s Addiction,” according to a statement.
