Kamala Harris continues to widen her lead over Donald Trump, according to new poll data from British newspaper The Guardian.

At the moment, 48% of respondents are ready to vote for the Democratic candidate, while Donald Trump is gaining 45.9%. The difference of 2.6% is the best result for Harris so far, although it is still within the margin of statistical error.

Experts note that the decisive factor in Harris’s rise in popularity was the September 10 televised debates, during which Trump made a number of mistakes, getting distracted by minor issues such as the size of his rallies and criticism of Haitian immigrants. This negatively affected his rating among voters.

Other polls also show a competitive battle between the candidates. According to the NYTimes/Siena College, Harris and Trump are tied at 47% each. The most optimistic result for Harris was recorded by the Morning Consult poll, according to which 51% of 11,000 respondents preferred her, while Trump received 45%.

Analysts are paying particular attention to the key state of Pennsylvania, which could play a decisive role in the outcome of the election. Here, Harris is ahead of Trump by 4%, gaining 50% to his 46%. Other data from Pennsylvania confirm an even larger gap – 51% to 45%.

In addition to Pennsylvania, Harris is also leading in Michigan and Wisconsin, where she leads Trump by 5% and 1%, respectively. Winning those states could give her the margin she needs, even without winning the traditionally Republican southern regions.

Despite Harris’s success in northern battleground states, analysts warn that Trump has often done better than polls predicted in previous elections.

Interestingly, public opinion remains divided on key issues. According to polls, 43% believe Trump is the better candidate to improve the economy, while 41% support Harris. However, Harris is a clear leader on health care, climate change, gun policy, and abortion. Trump, in turn, retains the advantage on immigration and the war in the Gaza Strip.
